Our mission
Service is what holds us together.
Communities don't survive on goodwill alone. They survive on the small acts and the big ones, the people who show up on Tuesday and the ones who show up for decades. The thread between us is service. And right now, that thread is fraying.
Why this matters now
We're more disconnected than we've ever been. Half of American adults report feeling lonely. The Surgeon General has called it a public health crisis on the scale of tobacco and obesity. The average American spent thirty hours a month with friends in 2003. By 2020, it was ten.
Careers move faster. Cities are bigger. Tech connects us to everyone except the people two doors down. This is the most sober generation in modern history, not because young people stopped wanting to gather, but because they're looking for something more real to gather around.
Service is that something. It always has been. Throughout history, the communities that endure are the ones that take care of each other. Not the ones with the loudest events or the slickest tools. The ones that keep showing up.
That's the kind of community Yura is built for.
What we believe
Principle 1: Service is the strongest connective tissue a community has.
Every act of service, the smallest or the largest, weaves people closer to each other. When service grows, community grows. When service is scattered, ignored, or buried in spreadsheets, community thins out. We believe the people doing this work deserve infrastructure worthy of it.
Principle 2: The volunteer is the heart of the work, not a row in a database.
Most volunteer software treats people as event attendance. Sign-ups, head counts, hours logged, done. We think the volunteer journey itself, the showing up, the growing into the work, the becoming part of something, is the thing worth nurturing. Tend to the volunteer, and the community tends to itself.
Principle 3: The people doing the most important work deserve the best tools.
Most volunteer platforms run on tech stacks from a decade ago. Clunky, slow, and built for compliance instead of connection. Nonprofits, schools, and community groups carry the work that holds society together, and they've been handed the worst software in the industry to do it with. We're changing that. Yura is built on modern infrastructure, designed for the way people actually serve, and made to grow with the communities using it.
What we promise
We will protect the thread.
Every hour logged, every volunteer recognized, every story kept. Nothing falls through.
We will strengthen it.
Real tools, real support, real respect for the work. Built for the way service actually happens, not the way old software assumed it did.
We will help it grow.
The more people who find their way into service, the stronger every community becomes. Yura exists to make that easier, warmer, and more connected, every day.
This is the work of our generation.
We're glad you're here for it.
